Advantages: Great taste

Disadvantages: Calories

I have three major weaknesses in my life, the first is that I spoil my children who are now becoming increasingly skilled and devious in their attempts to extract my hard earned cash from my bank account, the second is my love of chocolate and the ability to consume whole family bars in one sitting, and the third is my love of cheesecake. If the dessert trolley arrives and is devoid of cheesecake then my waistline is safe and I can wave it away with an air of nonchalance that is the envy of my weaker willed dinning companions. However if cheesecake is present then my resolve crumbles faster than an England penalty taker and woe is I if there is a choice of two flavours the indecision is all consuming.

With this in mind food shopping is a bit of a nightmare with impulse buys a constant threat to my weight-loss regime and the fact that Tesco sell some excellent cheesecakes in individual portions means that I have tried every flavour available.

I like the fact that the Apple Streusel Cheesecake is sold in an individual portion as it means that I do not burden the guilt of buying a whole cheesecake and scoffing the lot. When I say an individual portion I would like to point out that there are actually two portions each weighing approximately a 100g however as I have never failed to eat both portions in one sitting in my mind you are getting an individual portion cut in half. The cheesecake comes in clear plastic packaging ensuring that you have a full view of the contents before buying, with cakes this is useful to ensure that the contents have not been damaged or the base is crumbling. The contents and nutritional information is on the base of the packaging and the product label and description also serves as the seal on the packaging. Inside each cheesecake portion has a plastic divider ensuring that it stays intact even if it falls over in the packaging, this pla
stic divider also makes it easy to remove each portion without having to touch the cake.

This cheesecake has a great taste and just as importantly in my opinion a good texture to it. In keeping with cheesecake tradition the base is a biscuit base, which has a slightly moist texture and is heavily laden with sugar. The cheesecake is an apple flavour with small bits of apple within it giving it an attractive appearance and a delightful taste with the apple flavouring really coming through. The cheesecake is topped off with a biscuit topping that also contains small chopped nuts, which are a great compliment to the apple flavour.

For those of you watching your weight the nutritional information does not make pretty reading but then to put things in context this is a great tasting dessert and we all know something this good must be bad for you, it?s the law. For those who are bothered each portion has 391k and 24.8g but hey the way I look at it that?s 2 portions for under 50g of fat, it?s all in the marketing. This product is not cheap and will set you back £1.94 at my local Tesco but it is ideal for when you deserve a treat just make sure you hide he packaging afterwards from the rest of the family.

On the labelling there is also useful allergy advice as in addition to the nuts it also contains milk, wheat, gluten, egg and soya.
