... with a flashing on the label declaring the various percentages of the baddies: Calories 9% Sugar 8.6% Fat 0.9% Saturates 0.2% Salt 25% A small tin shared between three people would give each person around 8% of their daily amount of salt. I think that's quite a lot so I don't recommend eating baked beans every day all of the time! Apart from this, the tin declares it to be vegetarian, have a low G.I. index and be a good source of fibre! Beans are so versatile -the best thing you can do with them, of course...more

Premium Review Tesco Baked Beans In Tomato Sauce: Keeping it simple! (460 words)

I've always loved baked beans. They've been a staple store cupboard item throughout my entire life. I've never really been picky over which type of beans to get - they're all much of a muchness as far as I'm aware. However, after getting my married, but picky husband refuses to eat the Smart Price or Value makes of baked beans, and we've been eating the ASDA own baked beans for about a year and a half (not Smart Price, the next 'brand' up.). However, we started to notice that we'd occasionally get a tin that smelt a bit strange, or just didn't taste right. Initially putting it down to a 'dodgy tin' we didn't think much of it, until one day I opened a tin of the ASDA ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A tasty lunch option (457 words)

As I have described in one of my other reviews listed on Dooyoo, I am a great fan of having spaghetti in tomato sauce on top of toast for lunch, and one of my other favourites has to be Baked beans on toast, probably preferred over the spaghetti. It always provides a very filling and tasty lunch option which is always quick and easy to make. In the past I was always a fan of Heinz Baked beans in tomato sauce until the supermarket price war began. This continuous price cut saw the price of Tesco Value baked beans drop and drop until they reached 3 pence per can which was too cheap to avoid, so I decided to try them. I must say that I was pleasantly ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tesco Baked Beans In Tomato Sauce: Cheaper than Tesco Value Baked Beans! (535 words)

I have absolutely no loyalty when it comed to baked beans. None at all. This is due to the fact that I don't really like beans enough to be able to appreciate the extortionately priced Heinz variety, in fact there is only one brand of baked bean that I refuse to eat and those are Branston Beans which come in a very strange tasting sauce in my opinion. In Tesco last week though I fancied some beans on toast for tea so after picking up a single tin of Heinz (priced at an astounding 65p incidentally) my eyes were drawn to a shelf edge label announcing a special offer on 4 tins of Tesco own brand baked beans for just £1. That makes them even cheaper than the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Who needs Heinz! (832 words)

Baked beans - one of the nation's favourite foods I would guess......as a child, "fishfingers, chips and beans" was my meal of choice in the school canteen. Students over several decades have survived on beans on toast (with lashings of snake bite in the union bar for dessert), and a tin of beans is an absolute MUST HAVE to go camping with - there is no point in having burnt sausages on your camping stove if you don't have the baked beans to go with them..... Baked beans have just as big a role in this household now as they ever did. Whether a substantial lunch of beans on toast, or as an alternative to peas (yuk) for those fishfinger and chips ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tesco Baked Beans In Tomato Sauce: THERE HAVE BEAN WORSE... (740 words)

We buy quite a lot of beans, mainly because they are so very handy to keep in the cupboard until the time arises where my other half is looking for a snack. Plus, I too am often looking for a bit of a snack during the daytime whilst my partner is out at work, so I tend to buy a few different snack items and keep them as a 'stand-by' for whenever the notion takes me. The beans I have been buying of late are "Tesco" own brand Baked beans. These are not the "Tesco Value" brand, I will point out. The Tesco beans have a bright blue label which is quite eye-catching. The main reason for me buying THIS brand of beans over any other is quite ...  Read the complete review
