Advantages: Great taste, Price
Disadvantages: Not quite as nice as wotsits
**Introduction**
I'm not usually one for cheap imitations of other products especially when it comes to food items as I have tasted plenty of bad cheap imitations of well known brands. I decided to give a cheap copy a go when my housemate offered me a packet of cheese puffs he had bought from Tesco. As I quite like the majority of Tesco's own cheaper range I decided to say thank you and try a packet of these cheese puffs as I really like Wotsits.
**The Bag**
As you can probably imagine, the packaging isnt half as fancy as the Wotsits packaging but features the Tesco value icon. The rest of the bag is a simple combination of white and blue with Tesco and Value made up of Red and White in a red background. As standard the bag also features the nutritional information for the contents of the individual bag. Each bag is 16 grams which is three grams less than the standard Wotsits bag.
**Cheese Puffs**
As you open the bag you really don't notice that much of a difference between the cheese puffs and the more expensive Wotsits. They are the same orangey/yellow colour and are roughly the same size. And they have that same melt in the mouth texture which makes Wotsits so appealing compared to normal crisps. They taste almost the same with a slightly less appealing taste than the more expensive Wotsits but that of course is to be expected especially with crisps.
**Nutritional Information**
As I mentioned before the standard information is on the front of the packet and shows there to be 83 calories contained in the 16g packet aswell as 0.8g sugar, 4.4g fat 0.6g saturates and 0.4g of salt. These rank well up against The values of Wotsits which are as follows.
Amount Per Serving
Calories 102Calories from Fat 56
% Daily Value*
Total Fat 6.3g10%
Total Carbohydrates 10.3g3%
Dietary Fiber 0.2g1%
Protein 1.1g
You must take into account that the bag of Wotsits is three grams heavier than the Tesco value cheese puffs at 19 grams. Most of the cheaper products have different values than their more expensive originals.
**Overall**
These provide you with a great cheap snack which could well prove to be a great alternative during this credit crunch we find ourselves in. I rate Tesco as the best when it comes to Supermarkets own cheapest range with Asda the worst. If you like Wotsits then why not try these and decide for yourself. At just 72p for a bag of six these provide great value against the typical price of 39p for a bag of 19g Wotsits. Not quite as good as the original but one of the best Tesco Value subtitutes.
Summary: Good
