Advantages: Great taste

Disadvantages: None

I’m a big lover of chocolate and also a big lover of cheesecake so a product that combines the two is a great idea, however traditionally my love of chocolate extends only to the actual product, chocolate flavour ice cream or cakes are never quite the same. Maybe it is the quality of the chocolate used or the combination does not work whatever it is the taste is never right, this particular product however does go someway to addressing the balance.

I like the fact that the Chocolate Brownie Cheesecake is sold in an individual portion as it means that I do not burden the guilt of buying a whole cheesecake and scoffing the lot. When I say an individual portion I would like to point out that there are actually two portions each weighing approximately a 100g however as I have never failed to eat both portions in one sitting in my mind you are getting an individual portion cut in half. The cheesecake comes in clear plastic packaging ensuring that you have a full view of the contents before buying, with cakes this is useful to ensure that the contents have not been damaged or the base is crumbling. Unfortunately as I use Tesco.com the person who put together my shopping bag this week did not seem to take advantage of this feature. The contents and nutritional information is on the base of the packaging and the product label and description also serves as the seal on the packaging. Inside each cheesecake portion has a plastic divider ensuring that it stays intact even if it falls over in the packaging, this plastic divider also makes it easy to remove each portion without having to touch the cake.

This cheesecake is a complicated piece of dessert, I do not mean that it has a number of emotions and therefore difficult to understand rather that it has a number of components that make up the whole. It comes with a chocolate biscuit base, which is slightly crumbly and very sweet. In fact a little too crumbly or my shopper is a bit heavy handed as most of the base had broken down into crumbs and were spread out within the packaging. Those sections that had remained in contact with the cheesecake had a moist texture and did not crumble when cut by my spoon.

The actual body of the cheesecake is very creamy and smooth in texture, it has a very strong chocolate taste however the taste is balanced and moderated by some white chocolate streaks of cheesecake that are found towards the top of the mixture. The taste is very creamy and does not dry your mouth out like some chocolate desserts. If it is too strong for your tatstes a little vanilla ice-cream would take the edge off nicely.

There are a number of toppings across the top of the cheesecake. On each slice there is a small square of chocolate brownie towards the rear which have a strong chocolate taste and which I found a little harsh. There are also small chocolate covered biscuit balls, I counted four on one slice of cheesecake and only one on the other, and are about half the size if your little finger nail. To complete the topping there are both dark and white chocolate shavings, which enhance the look of the cheesecake, and particularly the white chocolate shavings help to balance out the taste of the cake.

For those of you watching your weight the nutritional information does not make pretty reading but then to put things in context this is a great tasting dessert and we all know something this good must be bad for you, it’s the law. For those who are bothered each portion has 391k and 24.8g of fat but hey the way I look at it that’s 2 portions for under 50g of fat, it’s all in the marketing. This product is not cheap and will set you back £1.94 at my local Tesco but it is ideal for when you deserve a treat just make sure you hide the packaging afterwards from the rest of the family.

Anyway I’m off to do some exercise to ease my conscience after all my body is a temple even if no one else worships there.
