Advantages: Tastes lovely, rich and smooth cheesecake
Disadvantages: Quite sickly, a HUGE amount of calories per small slice
Everyone is entitled to a treat, so today (after Weight Watchers) I popped into Tesco to buy a cake to share with my friend with a nice cup of tea at her house.
Looking in the chiller my eagle eye immediately saw a Tesco branded cake which looked delightfully chocolatey and gooey even without my glasses on. It was a Chocolate Brownie Cheesecake which came as two individual slices for £2. Perfect.
Putting our slices of cheesecake on the plates I was a bit miffed at how skinny the slices were, I could have bought half a strawberry cheesecake in my village bakery for that! They look delicious though and I cannot wait to tuck in.
The topping of the cheesecake is a layer of a lovely rich chocolate mousse that melts in my mouth and tastes beautifully chocolatey. The cake itself has an attractive marbled effect as Tesco have used both vanilla flavoured cheesecake and chocolate flavoured cheesecake and the effect is really striking as the white and deep brown colours meet each other.
The cheesecake as a whole is very rich and sweet. It has a creamy and smooth texture and flavour, I did think the vanilla part was a little bit bland, but I suppose this is to counter the richness and strong taste of the chocolate cheesecake. It's obvious that this is a good quality cheesecake because each part I slice off with my fork holds its shape beautifully and it tastes delicious throughout the whole slice. The different flavours combine very well together and I could feel my taste buds picking out the individual flavours.
In the middle of each cheesecake slice is a large chunk of chocolate brownie. This is lovely and sweet with a nice sugary consistency as I chew it. The few spoonfuls of cheesecake where I'm lucky enough to get a piece of brownie are a delight because the contrast in texture from the brownie to the smooth cheesecake is a taste sensation.
The base of these cheesecake slices is chocolate digestive and it's more crumbly than I would usually like and most of it disappeared into the plastic package before I'd even lifted the cake out! It compliments the cheesecake beautifully though and like the brownie has a sugary and chocolatey flavour.
Together it's one of the most interesting cheesecakes I've eaten. The combination of textures and flavours makes for a delicious and unusual dessert and one I thoroughly enjoyed. Now, just to explain to my Weight Watchers leader why I consumed 455 calories (PER SLICE!!!!!!) not 15 minutes after nodding my head at her 'Resisting Temptation' talk!
Summary: You couldn't eat more than one slice of this cheesecake at a time, at 455 cals would you want to?
