Advantages: Moreish

Disadvantages: Plastic container

After my disastrous tasting of Tesco Jam Roly Poly, I was rather nervous about sampling the delights of their Chocolate Torte.

I normally prepare all our own desserts, but like to have the occasional ready made dessert in the freezer, in case of emergencies.

If you like a slice of chocolate heaven, then this is the dessert for you.

PACKAGING
*********

A square blue box, with TESCO written in large blue lettering at the top left hand side. A picture of a wonderfully delicious looking torte, with a slice already cut and positioned strategically on a cake slice. The torte has a sponge base, a milk chocolate mousse inside and is covered with a layer of darker chocolate, finally topped with plain and white chocolate shavings.

The torte weighs 395g and cost me £1.99.

The product is frozen and needs to be defrosted for one and a half to two hours at room temperature before serving.

It does state on the packet that the product may contain traces of nuts.

NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION per 2 ¼ oz serving

Energy 170kcal
Protein 2.9g
Carbohydrate 21.3g of which sugars 15.3g
Fat 8.2g
Fibre 1.1g

According to the packet, the torte will provide six servings, which I must admit I just said ?Yeah right?. Manufacturers ideas of servings and mine never agree, I live in a house where we have two male hoovers, and they will eat double a portion of any normal person.

So onto my verdict.......

The torte is packaged in one of those awful plastic containers. I detest these and I never ever manage to cut the packaging off without leaving a finger in the product, whatever it is. Today we didn?t bother, we left it in the container to defrost.

The first thing you notice, is that the product is quite small. However, it looks very appetising and appealing and exactly as it does on the packaging.

The torte smelled very chocolatey.

We?d
had our roast dinner and were all looking longingly at this, particularly Amber who would probably kill in order to get anything that contains chocolate.

The torte was very soft when cutting, and stuck to the knife. On tasting, the white and dark chocolate shavings complemented each other well and melted lovingly on the tongue. The mousse was very chocolatey and tasted light. There was an underlying alchoholic taste to the mousse and we couldn?t quite work out what it could be. The sponge was also light with a slight chocolate taste.

When we were eating, I realised that this probably would easily serve six people, but only if they had ice cream with it. I found it rather sickly and rich, and would only want a little piece, but everyone else would have been able to eat more if they had the chance.

Overall, I would recommend this product, but would advise anyone trying it, that it is very rich.

Good value and I would buy it again.

Sounds delicious, but probably not suitable for veggies (because of the mousse) :o( Will have to check next time I'm in Tesco!
