Tesco cous cous, cost 82p fo5 500g

Well today for lunch I have tomato couscous with feta cheese and ham I made it myself from a packet of tesco’s couscous

Tesco’s cous cous comes in a brown resealable bag containing 500g costs 82P so its fairly inexpensive. Opening the selfseal bag I have a bag full of tiny cream coloured dry grains mm what do I do with them? Well cous cous must be about the easies grain to cook .All you need to do is measure 250ml(9 floz) water into a saucepan add a pinch salt and 1 tbs spoon of cooking oil heat this and then add 250g (9 oz) couscous grains stir it in with wooden spoon cover pan and remove from heat for 3 minutes. All the water will have been absorbed by the grains making them plump and soft. Add a couple of knobs of butter and return to a gentle heat cook for3 or 4 minutes then separate the grains with a fork this can be served hot or cold as a salad it is enough to serve 4 -6 people.

Now I do not have my cous cous plain like this .I like it best cold as a salad with sundried tomatoes and feta cheese its perfect like this for a summer’s lunch let me tell you how I made mine today.
Well I cooked the cous cous as above then got the frying pan ready put a little olive oil in it I then chopped an onion and started to gently fry it. I also took the peel of a couple of garlic cloves and put these in to fry as well. While this was frying I drained my jar of sun dried tomatoes these were then chopped I added these to the frying pan today I had no basil or oregano to add . I sometimes add these. Well when the onions and tomatoes were soft and cooked I added them to the cous cous stirring in well . I chopped up some feta cheese and some ham I do not always add both its just I had some Ham left over and when the cous cous was cool I stirred in the cheese and ham.
I added a few olives – husband likes olives I only put some on his serving .

I then cut a couple of c
hunks of French br
ead and took the cous cous (soppy bit coming up) my husband and a glass of wine into the garden it was warm and sunny we sat together watching the tadpoles and frogs in the pond and watching some of the first tortoiseshell butterflies it felt good the beginning of summer!

In the summer this goes well with a salad and to accompany cold meats
Couscous is a good combine with chicken, and lamb with lots of herbs garlic and mushrooms does not go with beef so well I think.
Its great for a summer picnic

This Tesco’s packet does have a couple of suggestions for menus.
I have used some other makes of couscous and I find tesco’s good. you can find pkts of couscous with other ingredients ready added these are good when you want to be quick but not as good as making your own flavourings to add to tesco’s plain cous cous.

Couscous has 360 kcal per 100 g.

So what is couscous/ couscous are semolina grains that have been rolled in fine wheat flour. Cous cous is a staple of the North African diet
Thanks for reading have a good Sunday the sun is shining.

Sounds lovely! I do like couscous, but I'm terrible at making it - it always ends up really bland.
