Advantages: delicious ice cream, very cheap, creamy

Disadvantages: high in calories and fat

Sometimes only ice cream will do. I've loved it ever since I was a child and it never gets boring due to the fact there are so many wonderful concoctions and combinations out there. Some plain and fuss free, and some pretty wacky. Although I do really enjoy a nice branded ice cream treat such as Haagen Dazs, or Mackies, sometimes I'll settle for a supermarkets own brand. I've recently tried the Tesco creamy caramella ice cream. I was a bit scared to try it however at the time I was on a weight gain diet, so I thought i'd give it a go!!

The ice cream can be found in the freezers alongside all of the other ice creams and specifically the Chocolatino ice cream in the same range. The ice cream comes in a one litre tub which is exceptionally good for an ice cream carton. For this litre, it will cost you only £2. I feel that this is utterly amazing seeing as though you are charged almost £4 for a 500ml tub of Ben and Jerry's. there are also sometimes offers on with this product but not currently.
I find that the tub is really attractive and is actually more appealing than branded version such as Haagen Dazs. It is oval in shape, and it is longer than it is wide. Its made out of a thick plastic and so the gorgeous ice cream can be clearly seen through the tub. There is a sticky label on both sides of the tub as well as on the lid so that all vital information can be given. On the lid there is a product description, name and brand name. there is also on the lid, a delicious looking picture of large, toffee fudge slabs. The toffee actually looks like tablet. The side labels give the same information and pictures as well as supplying nutritional information too.

The lid is easy to remove but requires a bit of fiddling with the seal. Once you open it though you are met by a glorious site. It is filled pretty much up to the top, and looks delicious. The ice cream is a slightly off white cream colour and this is swirled with what looks like gallons of toffee sauce. On top there are lots of little toffee fudge pieces. There are a lot of the cubes however they are only on the top and are not distributed throughout. There is a glorious creamy smell coming from the ice cream however it smells only of vanilla and there is no toffee scent there much to my disapproval.
A recommended serving size is 54.5g however I'm not sure if I had this amount as I just scooped out how much I felt I needed. It was easy to scoop out and even after being out of the freezer only 5 minutes, it had softened off nicely. There had now begun to be a slight toffee smell to which was just splendid.

The taste of the ice cream was lovely. The vanilla ice cream was very creamy, almost creamier than Ben & Jerry's, but not quite. It was a lovely texture too, more soft than it was icy. The sauce was very sticky sweet and very thick too. It was quite well placed throughout the tub however I feel a bit more could have been included. The toffee cubes were really chewy and at first were brick hard. They added a lovely flavour and a lovely texture to the pudding too!
As I said a recommended serving size is 54.5g , and if you stick to this you will be taking in 122 calories and 5g of fat. I feel personanlly that this is no where near enough and I reckon I had nearer 100g of the ice cream. This ice cream is not suitable for those with milk, soya, buttermilk or wheat intolerances.

Trouble is, I would not be able to stick to the recommended 54.5g helping. Still what the heck:-)
