Advantages: Great mixture of carrot and cabbage, good mayonaise used.
Disadvantages: Not the healthiest of dressings
If there is one thing I love then it is salads, especially during the summer months (when we get them!) I take a homemade salad to work for my lunch, I like a salad to go with my tea and always do a big bowl of salad when I have people over for food. If there is one thing I hate though, it is a dry salad, or a salad that consists of a tomato and a couple of salad leaves, that is why I have to have a dressing and lots of coleslaw on my salads.
For work I tend to use a meat (Ham or Chicken) and chop it up and sprinkle over some salad leaves, carrot, pepper, onion, sweetcorn, occasionally some grapes and a generous helping of coleslaw!
I get my Coleslaw from Tesco and buy the 600g tub, I have tried the Value coleslaw in the past but it did nothing for me) The 600g tub is priced at £1.00, whilst you can buy a 300g tub for the cheaper price of 64p, occasionally Tesco will put the Coleslaw on offers, such as buy 2 tubs for £1.50.
The tub itself comes in a plastic container. The 600g product that I buy has a plastic lid which is removable and resealable however the 300g tub only has a plastic film to cover it so once this is broken you need to recover it (I use cling film or else it will dry out) The 600g tub is transparent in colour so you can see the coleslaw through the pot. The front of the coleslaw has some nutritional information on it and the back of the product has ingredients inforamtion and the best before date, this is usually 10 -14 days after you have brought the product.
The coleslaw itself is fantastic. The main ingredients of this product are cabbage, carrots, onion and double cream. In my opinion there is just the right amount of carrot and cabbage. On eating, it really is crunchy in your mouth and by using the double cream it has a lovely thick texture to the dressing unlike other coleslaws where the dressingnhas been far to watery. The onion used is only a small amount so it is not overpowering on your pallet or leaves you with an aftertaste.
The mayonanaise used is also really good. It is made up form vegetable oil, egg yolk, vinegar and dijon mustard. The dijon mustard does not make the coleslaw to spicy but does give it a good flavouring. I am reallyimpressed with the dressing on this coleslaw, the balance of it all is just right.
A few pieces of nutritional information are as follows: (Per serving)
Calories ~ 190
Sugar ~ 5.2g
Fat ~ 17.8g
Salt ~ 0.8g
This coleslaw certainly isn't the most healthiest of snacks and I don't use it all the time but it is my prefered choice.
In summary, this is a certain 5 / 5 stars from me, a great Tesco product that is suitable for vegetarians and a great side dish to any meal or a great topping on a salad.
Thanks for reading.
Summary: A great dressing for a salad or a side dish for your main meal, Well done Tesco!
