Advantages: Tastes lovely, good quality & reasonable value..

Disadvantages: None for me!

I regularly enjoy eating a baked or 'jacket' potato at home, often this appeals to me more than eating a larger evening meal as I often have a reduced appetite as a result of several health conditions that I suffer from.

I enjoy eating a variety of toppings on my baked potato, but one favourite of mine is a combination of some freshly-grated cheese and a large helping of coleslaw. I find this combination works very well together, and often have it on a sandwich or pitta pocket as well as in my beloved spuds. For this reason, I have tried out many different brands and varieties of shop-bought coleslaw over the years and one that I have purchased on many occasions is the "Tesco Creamy Coleslaw" which is of course a supermarket-own product from Tesco.

Paying only 66 pence for the 300g plastic tub of Tesco Creamy Coleslaw recently, I thought this was on a par (price-wise) with most other supermarket-own branded coleslaws that I buy regularly. I thought the packaging was pretty basic, as it really just consisted of a clear plastic tub with a couple of labels on the tub giving me information about the product, as well as the nutritional information and the like. There is a plastic lid on top of the tub which can be replaced after each use of the coleslaw to keep it fresh, but it seems fairly flimsy to me, although it does seem to fit well. There was a little plastic film layer on top of the tub to keep the coleslaw nice and fresh, and I managed to peel this off from the tub very easily.

The Tesco Creamy Coleslaw looks to be of a fairly high quality when I remove it from the tub. The creamy mayonnaise dressing is quite thick, especially when compared to more 'budget' branded coleslaws that I have bought before. The pieces of chopped vegetable which are onion, carrot and cabbage look to be nice and crisp and they are not scarce in their quantity at all.

The Tesco Coleslaw doesn't disappoint in the flavour department either, and I find it is a very satisfying addition to my meal. I thought that the mayonnaise dressing was not over-powering or sickly, and it didn't lack anything in its consistency either, making the 'Creamy' element of the product name ring true. I also liked the fact that the dressing wasn't at all watery or thin in the way that budget coleslaw products are, and it held the vegetables within it perfectly. I have found that creamy coleslaw products can be quite sickly when I have bought them in the past but in the case of the Tesco version I didn't find that the mayonnaise dressing was over-powering at all.

The vegetables in the Tesco Creamy Coleslaw had a lovely 'bite' to them, and I didn't think they had begun to get at all sloppy or slimy from being encased in the mayonnaise dressing. I thought too that the pieces of vegetable were a generous size and were deliciously crunchy, and I have nothing negative to report about the vegetables at all.

The nutritional information on the reverse of the tub informs me that a serving of the Creamy Coleslaw will provide 95 kcal and 9g fat which I believe is average for a creamy coleslaw product.

The Tesco Creamy Coleslaw that I am reviewing here is available to buy in three alternative sizes of plastic tub, so you can choose the size that best suits your needs. The smallest tub is 180g and costs £0.48, the 300g tub I bought costs £0.66 and the large tub is 600g and costs £1.24. (Info from www.tesco.com, and prices relevant as @ January 2012). I believe there is also a lower fat 'light' option of the coleslaw available to buy.

All in all, I really enjoyed the Tesco Creamy Coleslaw and I will definitely buy it again as I find it a scrumptious crunchy topping when added to my jacket potato or sandwich. I don't have anything negative to report about the product at all and can only award it top marks in the product rating as a result!

Summary: Great creamy crunchy coleslaw that I would recommend!
