Advantages: Crunchy biscuit, smooth & sweet chocolate and caramel, delicious, good price multipack of 7

Disadvantages: None

I recently reviewed Tesco's Wild & Whippy bars and their Caramel Nougat bars. The first being a very close version of Milky Way, and the latter being a very good replication of Mars. Tesco's Crunchy Caramel Biscuits are next on my list as a great alternative to Twix if you want want to save a few pennies on the branded version.

Tesco Crunchy Caramel Biscuit Bars can be found in the chocolate & sweets isle, alongside their other own-brand products. These come in mutlipack sizes only, as Tesco own brand chocolate bars aren't sold individually. A 232g 4 pack costs 99p (currently on offer at 3 for £2.50, including a selection of their other own brand bars), and a 294g 7 pack costs £1.07. The 7 pack is a great buy, especially when comparing it to Twix which can cost twice as much.

The plastic outer packaging is a golden brown colour, and the bars come in a cadboard tray. The appearance and packaging aren't anything fancy, but they're more than adequate. It's good to know you're not paying for the brand or the design on the front, so at £1.07 for a pack of 7 I think they're very well priced.

Each individual packet has twin biscuit fingers, like a twix though not as long. These are the perfect size for a snack, and great for taking out or putting in lunchboxes. Each packet contains 196 calories and 10.5g of fat, so that's still a little less than a Mars for example. If you just want a bit of chocolate & biscuit yumminess, one finger is enough (no rude jokes please!) and I find they stay fresh once opened, especially if you pop it in a biscuit tin or the fridge.

These are very similar to twix; a biscuit base with a layer of caramel, covered in milk chocolate. They look similar too, with the slightly rippled, smooth chocolate which smells as tempting as it looks.

The chocolate is smooth and has a lovely taste, and the same can be said about the caramel, which is thick and sweet. This goes perfectly with the biscuit base, which is lovely and crunchy. Texture wise, this is very satisfying because the chocolate melts in your mouth, the biscuit has a great crunch, and the caramel is chewy without being hard enough to bite your teeth or smooth enough to dribble down your chin!

Tesco's Crunchy Caramel Biscuits definitely give Twix a run for their money, especially in terms of price. Personally, I think there's little difference between the two, but judging these bars on their own merits I would say they're good quality and very tasty.

Summary: Small & mighty; these bars are delicious :o)
