Advantages: Tasty, Good Packaging, Reasonably Priced

Disadvantages: Not Much Cheaper than Brand Names, Very Unhealthy

Tesco Crunchy Caramel Biscuit is one of the Tesco own chocolate bars that I've been most impressed with. Price wise, a packet of seven individual snack size bars will set you back £1.06, which is a reasonable 15p per bar. Each bar in these packs comes as a short, twin pack - like a twix that's been cut in half! You can also purchase these in packets of four standard sized bars for 99p, which works out at 25p per bar.

Obviously, these bars are Tesco's take on Mar's Twix bars. Be warned that although you might assume that Tesco's version is considerably cheaper than Mar's, they're not. A five pack of Twix costs £1.59 which is 32p each, and a packet of nine snack sized Twix costs £1 which is 11p each. The Mars snack versions are slightly smaller than the Tesco, but the point is that the prices are actually a lot closer than you might assume.

Taste wise, these aren't quite a Twix, but they're really nice in their own way. The milk chocolate they've used in these bars is acceptable, and there's plenty of it whichever size you opt for. The caramel is my favourite part in these, and I like that it's really soft, sweet and thick in texture. I also like that the biscuit they use in these has a good, solid crunch to it and a slightly buttery biscuit flavour.

The wrapping they use on these is slightly better than I've found on some of the other Tesco own chocolate bars. It survives being banged around in my lunchbox or glove compartment all day, and yet is easy to open. So that makes these ideal for taking out and about with you to save spending 50p+ on an individual bar from the shops.

The nutritional content is just not good I'm afraid. A standard sized Tesco Crunchy Caramel Biscuit contains 285 calories, 13.3g of fat and 25.8g of sugar. That's about the same as Mar's Twix, and a lot of other chocolate bars that contain caramel. It's still something to consider when you slip these into your basket though. Once in a while they're tasty, once a day and you've got a belly as big as mine.

You can't beat a real Twix!

I do like these as an option to twix's rather than as an alternative. Good review.
