I love cakes and pastries but don't often buy them - however I am partial to an egg custard tart and have loved them since a child when they were a real treat. I 've found that Tesco Egg Custard Tarts are the best so far if you exclude our local bakery. The pastry is just the right depth - not so thick that you feel you have to chew it too much, nor to thin that you feel shortchanged. It has the right consistency that the tart is easy to get out of the silver foil holder it comes in with out breaking up, thats if you haven't picked the edging off beforehand of course. The pastry isn't so crumbly that it disentigrates nor so hard that you break your ... Read the complete review

After skimming through a number of the reviews already written for this product, I find it rather amusing that I am not alone in the fact that until recently (I am now 22) I would not touch these cakes with a barge pole!!! I couldn't understand how anyone could eat them. As a child, these had no appeal to me whatsoever. As a child, I suppose if it wasn't a doughnut, or had no cream or chocolate in it, I didn't see the point! However, with being ill at the minute and having to stick to plain foods only, I find these are one of the few cakes I can eat when I venture into a bakery such as Birds or Greggs. So when I was in Tesco a couple of weeks ago and saw ... Read the complete review

Egg custard tarts....Food for the Gods! Amazing how such a simple food can taste so good. Many years ago my mother used to churn out egg custard tarts with alarming frequency! I suppose they were cost efficient and a popular teatime treat. We always fought over the tart, all of us wanted the piece that had the heaviest coating of ground nutmeg. Although as I mentioned above an egg custard tart is a relatively simple thing to make it never ceases to amaze me how much the recipe can vary. Some supermarkets churn out the most delicious custard tarts and others resemble something from the Michelin rubber factory. When I choose a packet of ... Read the complete review

As a child, I refused to eat egg custard tarts. The reason was that they were usually supplied by a little old lady who lived next door. Her house smelt funny and she liked to plant big sloppy kisses on my cheek. Despite her petite stature and obvious frailty, she scared me a little so I never tasted her freshly baked tarts which she brought round every couple of weeks. For some reason, my mental image of Mrs Howarth always stayed with me and I've always associated egg custard tarts with funny smells and sloppy toothless kisses. When I moved 'up north,' it was my boyfriend who finally persuaded me to try one. Not that much persuasion was needed. I've ... Read the complete review

Egg Custards are something which I managed to avoid eating for the first twenty or so years of my life. For some strange reason I believed I wouldn't like them - which I admit is a fairly unreasonable excuse for not trying something! One day when visiting an elderly relative in Leeds, I was given an egg custard tart with a cup of tea - and tentatively decided to give it a go ... it would have been rude not to! -I've been hooked ever since. Nowadays I like to consider myself a bit of an egg custard expert or 'aficionado', and know which brands I like and dislike. Although I don't eat them as much as I would like to - due to the local Tesco ... Read the complete review
