Advantages: taste yummy
Disadvantages: high in calories
Once again our lovely neighbour turned up on our doorstep bearing cakes and tarts from Tesco that were about to go out of date. Without hesitation we grabbed the lot and started deciding between the two of us which we'd eat first. Much to my delight I saw these egg custard tarts! I know full well that Andrew hates them so I'd get to eat the whole box to myself if I dared.
The box contains four good sized egg custard tarts which look very apetising through the window on the top of the box. The tarts have a nice firm looking pastry which encases a pale yellow mixture and here and there you can see little brown specks which is of course the nutmeg.
After the last time our neighbour gave us loads of sweet stuff, I ate the lot without thinking but this time I decided to check out the calorie content which I thought may scare me into not eating so much. It worked! My jaw dropped as I saw that each tart contained 245 calories each. If I did eat the whole box like I first thought I would then that's nearly all of my daily calorie intake!
On eating these tarts they were exactly how they should be. The pastry was firm without being too crumbly and dry. The egg custard wasn't slopping about all over the place but it wasn't dead firm that it was crunchy! The whole thing together was so tasty. The egg custard was very subtle but with the added hint of nutmeg it made it divine and the texture of it all combined made for a lovely afternoon delight.
I would highly recommend these tarts but try and not to eat more than one or you could be putting on a few pounds this week!
Summary: Very good!
