Advantages: Very tasty and cheap

Disadvantages: not enough salsa sause

Probably one of my favourate types of cooking has to Mexican and the Tesco Fajita meal kit is a simple, quick and easy way to have mexican cooking on your table in 20 minutes. Having tried the more expensive branded types of fajita kits, namely Old El Paso and Discovery, I have to say I far prefer the Tesco own brand version, and for the price, a mear £1.90 as opposed to ~£2.60 for the branded kits it is far better value.

The pack comes in a standard square cardboard box with all the instructions for cooking on the rear in 4 simple steps. The front of the packaging has all the nutritional information, what is contained within the pack (which varies between the branded and non-branded so be careful not to buy the same items twice) and what is required as an extra, namely Chicken, onions and peppers. However, in my experience a nice dollop of sour cream within each wrap is a must, not only to add flavour, but to stop your mouth from catching fire!

The kit comes with all the seasoning powder you need in the pack to coat the chicken pieces in, this is done once the chicken has been fried in a pan and cooked throughout, I usually leave some of the seasoning until the peppers and onions have also been added to give those a covering as well, but it depends on how spicy you like them.

The salsa comes in a plastic pouch inside the pack but from my experience it is never enough for the number of tortillas that are provided, so you may wish to buy extra before making the Fajitas.

The pack contains 8 flour tortillas inside and these are sealed in a plastic wallet. 8 is generally an amount for 2 or 3 people, so if your eating alone, don't throw the excess away, they are perfectly capable of being frozen and saved for another day. In the Old El Paso kits, the Tortillas can stick together and may end up torn when trying to separate them before eating, this has never once happened with the Tesco Fajita Kit and is therefore not a problem.

If your trying to cook on a budget like me, a tip that I've picked up is, to keep the costs down, instead of buying fresh peppers to cook with which cost ~£1.50 for 3, Tesco also sell in the frozen vegetables section a back of pre-sliced Frozen mixed Peppers. Only half a bag of these mixed peppers is needed which will equate to about 3 fresh peppers, as they are frozen, the remainder will last for another Fajita session in the future, and they only cost 85p for the whole bag making it 43p instead of £1.50!

This kit will provide a superb meal for a couple of people and is tasty and filling without too many calories. It can also be cooked for vegetarians by using Quorn chicken instead of the real deal.

Summary: Fantastic!

Mmm I love fajitas - have to say I don't like the seasoning as much in this one as I do in the Old El Paso kit but I think that's just down to personal taste
