I remember when I was younger, I would always eat the lemon curd out of those little tarts and leave the horrid, crumbly pastry. Even now, I have a certain special liking for lemon curd. When I noticed the Lemon Curd flavour yoghurt in the Tesco Finest range, did I hesitate to try? No!

The yoghurt comes in quite a bizarre shape, almost oval. It was quite deep too. On the front of the black pot you will notice there is an image of ripe-looking lemons. Now, these actually did not attract me too much, but I was still keen to see what the yoghurt itself was like, as there was no indication on the pot itself.

When you do peel back the lid, you will find that this is quite an easy task. Unlike other yoghurts, there are no little sputters. This is probably because the yoghurt itself is so thick and creamy. You will notice this when you peer into the lid at its pale lemon shade. When you combined this appealing look with its sweet and bitter scent of lemons, it seemed almost too good to eat!

Of course, I want to highlight that 'almost'! I was still prepared to dig in, and so I did, shovelling a fair amount of yoghurt into my mouth. Wow - the sensation that tingled away at my taste buds was unreal! The cooling yoghurt had such a bitter taste of lemon to begin with, and after a few seconds, this transformed into a much more sugary sweet lemon curd flavour. This was such a phenomenal flavour - it certainly didn't take me long to finish it!

Yes, I said this is delicious, but was the nutritional values as pleasing? Unfortunately not. Each 150g pot contains 255 calories, and 23g sugars, as well as 15.9g fat! That truly is astonishing, and certainly discomforting! I suppose, I have to give it the benefit of the doubt - it is suitable for vegetarians, and as it is calcium rich, it will help to keep our bones and hair strong!

:WARNING: contains milk and may contain traces of nuts.

You do not have to eat a yoghurt on its own the way it comes; there are often other ways for it to be enjoyed! I quite like yoghurt on my weetabix. Unfortunately, I feel there is too much in this pot, and it is far too thick and heavy to fit this purpose. Neither do I feel it is good to be sloshed over fruit. Though, it does make a nice snack or dessert after meals. Some yoghurt pots can be reused, but as this one is made of a thick cardboard rather than a plastic, it will just fall apart after washes so that is not such a good idea!

Especially with this Credit Crunch hitting hard, I've found I am watching what I spend a lot more, as I am sure a lot of us are. Unfortunately, this yoghurt does not do much justice for me here! A single pot costs a whopping 68p! That alone may not seem like much, but considering you can buy a decent yoghurt for as little as 25p, it really is something to have a little cry about! On a benefit though, this does have a good shelf life- lasting around two weeks after the date of purchase. Of course, I myself never can keep a yoghurt for that long though!

Comparing this yoghurt to Lemon flavoured yoghurts can seem quite difficult - its not the most common of flavours around! There's not much difference between this and the Asda Extra Special Lemon Curd yoghurt, except Asda's is a little cheaper. The Weight Watchers Lemon and Lime one has so less quantity but is more healthy, and much cheaper. The Muller Light Lemon and Passionfruit yoghurt (one of my new favourites!) is much healthier, with a decent amount in the pot, and much cheaper too! I feel that this particular lemon yoghurt is ranked pretty low in the list!

This is a really delicious yoghurt, and if you do not mind the negative nutrition content, then it is certainly worth a try! Though, I suggest you eat it just now and again!

Great review with feeling!! You love your sweet desserts don't you? I've never been brave enough to try lemon curd as a yoghurt but you've made it sound very appealing. Gary.
