Advantages: They taste supreme, and contain 85% pork.

Disadvantages: They are pricey on comparison with other brands

Tesco's is one of Britains best supermarkets and as they like to claim "every little helps" they have introduced among their own brand of products their "finest range". The packaging in general is more appealing, sophisticated and eye catching and the product itself on the whole, a lot better than their normal offering. Of course you pay a premium for this and the product itself then comes into competition with other well known brands. You then have to weigh up if what Tesco's is offering can compete with such brands and even better offer something which tastes superior. Well, I think they have cracked it when it comes to their finest sausages.

They claim on the packaging to be traditionally made and the ingredients support this some what. Each pack contains six sausages and can be found housed in the fresh meat section. The pork supplied for these sausages is 100% British sourced and the pack carries the British standard flag on the front of the packet and also the British Pork assured food standards label. The sausages themselves are 85% pork, rusk, white bread, egg, egg white, sea salt, white pepper, nutmeg and preservative.

They are nice and chunky sausages appearance wise and as you can see from the ingredients have a good percentage of pork. Whilst cooking the smell is minimal as opposed to other cheaper branded sausages where the smell can be extremely over powering and make your eyes water. Whilst I was pregnant (some years ago) I found I could not stomach the smell of oil/fat cooking, unfortunately for me this is still the case! So no more fried eggs etc. These sausages not only have very little odour whilst cooking but also a lot less fat content which is evident whilst cooking. The taste is quite supreme and are most definately the nicest sausages I have ever tasted! They do take a little longer to cook as well which is down to the higher pork content but if you want something to taste as it should then you can not go wrong with these Tesco's finest sausages. They are meaty and very tasty without being chewy and greasy.

The sausages come in a black tray with a clear cellaphane wrap and black/grey two tone sleeve. There is a picture on the sleeve which shows the sausages (uncooked) being held by a butcher(well he is wearing an apron) in some grease proof paper. As they are fresh they have a short shelf life, so it is just as well that they are able to be frozen, but must be used within a month from the purchase date. On the reverse of the sleeve are the nutritional values, 360Kcal per two sausages (grilled). There is also the best cooking methods, shallow fry, oven cook or grill. Tesco's suggest that grilling is the best method here. I have only grilled and oven cooked these sausages and found both ways they cooked superbly. Tesco's also suggest that they take about 16-17 minutes to cook however, we found that this was slightly on the optimistic side of things and that they took more like 25 minutes to cook.

These sausages are not suitable to cook from frozen and must be thoroughly defrosted first. They are also not suitable to cook in a microwave.

Price wise, they are quite abit more expensive than other sausages as I have said before but, well worth it even if you only try them once. £2.59 Per pack of six 454g.

I have absolutely no reservations in reccommending these sausages to everyone, they are simply the best.

Summary: Tesco's finest sausages taste super, smashing, great.
