Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Not exceptionally fizzy!
Tesco's Cola Lances are another bag from the batch of six that I purchased a couple of weeks ago whilst around town. They were rather delicious and are what I am going to review today.
The Cola Lances cost 38p a bag and contains 75g of sweets but can be bought on offer with another two bags for £1. The bag in question is brown in colour and so isn't particularly eye-catching when it is on the shelf. On the front is a picture of a fun looking blue alien pulling one of the sweets from the bag. The front if the bag also tells me that the sweets contain no artificial colours and no artificial flavours.
The pack itself has a sweet sugary smell when it is opened. Now although this isn't quite as enticing as the smells that pour out of the bags of Asda's children's sweets, it isn't that bad either. The bag I bought contained 12 lances, which were roughly 15cm long. For the price I didn't think that this was bad value but in comparison to Asda's brand of cola lances called "Fizzy Wands", which contain 17 wands, this isn't particularly great. The sweets themselves are brownish in colour and coated with a very appetising looking sugar.
As usual it is the taste test that comes last and is for the main part the most important factor. The cola taste of these lances is quite strong but not overpowering. I did however find the sugar coating quite disappointing; as to me it didn't seem to fizz at all. Texture wise the sweets faired quite well. They weren't too tough that I nearly broke my teeth eating them but they weren't soft either. The chewy consistency was therefore very nice.

Nutritionally the sweets fair like most other sweets. They're not particularly great for you but not exactly going to kill you either. My advice therefore is to simply eat them in moderation, as doing so can't really do you much harm and plus everyone deserves a treat now and then.
In conclusion for me these sweets don't quite come up to scratch. Had I never tasted Asda's variety of these sweets then maybe I would rate them more highly but as things stands Asda's Cola Wands are for me far superior to these. You get more for your money with the Asda brand and the fizz they produce is much better. This doesn't mean however that I would never purchase these again because they were pleasant enough to eat but quite simply given the choice I would choose Asda's.
Summary: A decent sweet for the price but Asda's are definitely better
