NAME OF FOOD: Tesco Free From Chocolate Crispy Bars.
PACKAGING
All Tesco Free From products seem to come in purple packaging. In this case it is a purple box with a yellow box under the free from logo which states that this particular product is Wheat free, Gluten Free and Egg free.
There is a red New logo on the right hand side of the front of the box and 5 chocolate crispy bars in white on the purple background which shows a plate of the bars and a close up of 2 of the bars. In the bottom right hand corner it states that the bars are individually wrapped and gives information on fat, calories, and salt content per 30g serving.
BACKGROUND
Since I have been diagnosed as having Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) the dietician/hospital have tried to alleviate my symptoms with dietary changes. Since July 05 I have been trying a wheat free diet and this has helped enormously.
COLOUR
The individually packages are also purple and the bars are a lovely deep brown chocolate colour.
**UPDATE The bars themselves are just a bit longer than my middle finger but twice the width, and are a dark brown chocolate colour. They are quite deep for a cereal bar (at least an inch, maybe an inch and a half), and have rice crispie pieces inside when you bite a bit off. **END OF UPDATE**
TASTE
These taste mainly of chocolate but also seem to be like rice crispy cakes.
**UPDATE The bars taste extremely like the round rice crispie triangles my mother used to buy and are rather hard to bit into to start with. The rice crispie pieces inside can crumble quite a bit, when you bite a bit off. If you are slow to eat it then the chocolate melts onto your fingers and makes a very sticky mess. My boyfriend Robert who is not on a special diet likes them but we both prefer the other product which has nuts in, which is even harder to get hold of than this one. **END OF UPDATE**
SMELL
Of chocolate mainly, but has chocolate fudge as an ingredient which could sometimes be detected.
MAIN INGREDIENTS
The main ones are Milk chocolate (33%), Sugar, Cocoa Butter and Whole Dried Milk. Also contains Cocoa Crisped Rice (26%) and Chocolate Fudge (3%)
Back states which ingredients could cause allergies. In this case, contains milk and Soya,
States can not confirm will be free of nuts or sesame seeds as made in a factory which uses sesame seeds and nuts.
It is free from egg, wheat and gluten. Suitable for vegetarians and those on wheat, gluten or egg free diets.
NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION
Per 30g serving 132 Calories, 4.6g fat and a trace of salt. Protein 1.2g, Carbohydrate 21.4g (14.g sugars), Fibre 0.2g.
**UPDATE. This information is only included as I am aware that certain diets, such as Weightwatchers, require this information to establish if the product has many (or few) points to it. I am also on a low fibre diet so have to read this information myself. **END OF UPDATE**
