... kcal, 16.0g of carbohydrates and 0.8g of fat. The carb intake is a little too much and personally I prefer the value range of tinned tomatoes. This is because they taste more tomatoey, they are less watery and they do not spoil your dinner! They come in the same packaging as the above image and they are around 50p per can at Tesco. I would rate these 3/5 because they are just not good quality and for the price I think that is shocking and there should be a thicker juice....more

I use chopped tomatoes quite often in cooking and like most people at the moment I am trying to keep shopping costs to a minimum. I believe these to be a cupboard staple that I am just never without so I want to try and find the cheapest ones possible at a reasonable price. A 400g tin is 48p in Tesco at present which is a little more expensive than some of the cans available but I wanted something that wasn't 'value' or 'basics' just for a nice change really. A 400g tin has 92 calories, 16.0g sugar (high for what it is) and 0.8g of fat. So at least this is low in fat but what with it being cheap it is high in sugar (to give it an extra tang I guess!). ...  Read the complete review

As many of you will now be aware I tend to do a weekly shop in my local Tesco store. I am one of those people who do not need to take a shopping list with me as I know week in week out what I need to buy other that having a look at what is on offer so a few weeks ago I was totally thrown by the fact that my regular brand of chopped tomatoes had totally run out! I am not bothered by fancy labels so normally buy the Tesco Value chopped tomatoes but as the shelf before me was empty I was suddenly faced with buying a new brand. Being a lover of all things that are a bargain I wanted something that was close in price. The Tesco value chopped tomatoes cost me ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tesco Italian Chopped Tomatoes: Light on Your Pocket but Light on Flavour (471 words)

Tesco Italian Chopped Tomatoes are not the most exciting tinned tomatoes you can buy. They certainly don't excite the taste buds. They are however an economical choice at 56p for a 400g tin when compared to say a same size tin of Napolina chopped tomatoes that will set you back 98p. Like most people I use tinned tomatoes as a base for pasta dishes or sometimes with a vegetarian chili con carne. More often than not though I have them with pasta dishes. I regard the taste of these tomatoes as passable but a bit on the bland side. They lack flavour. As such I often try to spice them up a little by adding a touch of lemon juice, herbs and sometimes ...  Read the complete review

A step up from the value and a step up in price... These Italian chopped tomatoes are in a rich tomato juice in a 400g tin. They are Tesco's own brand and in my opinion they are worse than the value. To cook these all you have to do is empty the contents into a pan, stir gently for 3 to 4 minutes then make sure this does not boil. You can also pour these into a spag bol or chilli. The problem with these is that they are too watery. I understand that these are in real tomato juice but these made my dinner very runny! Half of the can provides 94 kcal, 16.0g of carbohydrates and 0.8g of fat. The carb intake is a little too much ...  Read the complete review
