Advantages: sweet

Disadvantages: calories

At the end of last term goodies kept appearing in the staffroom birthdays and people leaving. One of the edible goodies on the table was a packet of Tesco jam tarts there actually were 2 packs and some other cakes too.

These tarts are wrapped in a cellophane wrapper bag clear and Tesco blue coloured. You can see the tarts through the wrapping. The individual tarts are in a foil tart case.

Now Tesco jam tarts are basically a short crust pastry circle with a spoon full of jam in the middle. There are 6 tarts and 3 flavours 2 of each flavour, strawberry apricot and blackcurrant.
I did actually have one of these jam tarts to eat. The pastry was ok quite thin a little crumbly. The jam well it was ok, so, so jam, not the best it was sweet and slightly fruit flavoured mine was strawberry it tasted of strawberries, just this was a cheapish jam I think. There was about a teaspoon and a half in this jam tart so not bad .
I quite enjoyed my jam tart with a cup of tea at the end of the day. I needed a sugar fix, my energy levels low.

Calories and ingredients~
Jam tarts= lots of calories 133kcal per tart. Not really suitable for those with wheat, gluten or dairy allergies

Price~
These tarts cost 53p for a pack of 6 that's 8.8p each. Sainsbury's jam tarts are the same price this week .

Reflection~
I think these jam tarts are ok, they are fine as a sweet snack or would be fine with custard for a midweek desert.

These tarts do not in anyway measure up to my mums home made jam tarts. When making a pie she would often make too much pastry and make a few jam tarts with the extra pastry. Mums pastry was to die for, really short crust golden and buttery. The jam would be home made strawberry, blackberry, raspberry full of whole fruits and tasting of the real fruit which would be picked from our garden or the local hedgerows. Still gone are those days few of us have the time for making home made jams.

Summary: 6 Jam tarts from Tesco

You're right there's nothing like mum's home baking. I haven't eaten a jam tart since I was a child - but then calories didn't matter - I needed them.

I visit a whole borough's worth of staffrooms in a year, and 80% of the time it's always someone's birthday with cakes. No wonder my wife's perennially on a diet if that's what goes on where she teaches. Like the title. Must do one on cotton buds and call it Q-Tip Eye.
