I'm on holiday at the moment, staying at my boyfriends parents house in Eastbourne. One of the wonders of staying at other peoples houses is all the new foods they have lurking in their cupboards, and today I cam across a rather nice red pepper and feta paste . This looked yummy, but called for something other than a bog standard slice of bread - happily, I found some wholemeal pitta breads in the cupboard too .

Now, I'm not huge eater of wholemeal bread - I tend to buy the best-of-both kind of loaves every so often, but actual wholemeal just has too strong a taste for me, so I wasn't entirely convinced I would like these pittas .

Opening the pack, these pittas are much plumper than my usual brand (sainsburys basic), and quite a nice pale brown colour. There are six of these in a pack, so a fair few sandwiches can be had.

I shoved one pitta into the toaster to warm, and impatient began to eat the other one cold . it was nice, pleasantly nutty, and really didn't taste too much like brown bread at all. Oh, but the warm one when it came out was smashing - warm, fluffy, with a lovely wheaty nutty flavour, it was perfect - and even nicer covered in my spread!

My boyfriend also had a pitta, although he opted to fill his rather than spread it - unlike some pitta bread they came apart easily for filling.

Each pitta contains 145 calories, and 1.5g fat, so they are quite healthy. I'm afraid not having paid for these myself, I'm not sure how much they cost, but with it being Tesco I would expect a reasonable price of around 80-90p.

Recommended - a great lunchtime eat!
