Advantages: Delish flavour; Strong enough to hold all fillings
Disadvantages: None
I've gone mad on pitta bread at the minute and the best ones I reckon are these large wholemeal ones from Tesco. They are about 60p for 6 and they are quite a bit bigger than the standard size ones but apart from that they look exactly the same.
I always warm mine under the grill because I like the edges to go a bit crispy. They are easy to cut and open out nice for me to be able to put the filling inside, because they're bigger they open out wide and you can stuff loads in! That's perfect for when I'm in a greedy mood! lol
They taste dead nice, because they are wholemeal they've got a bit of a nutty taste and that makes them a lot more interesting than a plain white pitta. You have to watch a bit what you put in them though because like all brown bread the flavour doesn't always go with other fillings.
My fave is egg mayo with loads of crispy salad and I reckon the large pittas hold this sort of filling perfect and you can still taste the delish flavour of the bread.
You can put hot fillings into these pittas as well and even if you use something that's got a sauce they cope good and the bottoms don't fall through. I tried some Morrisons pitta breads once and the bottom split as soon as I put the filling in, I think it was some mince filling with a sauce, it might have been bolognese and the pitta fell apart!
I think they're mega filling, I had one yesterday with a chicken breast in it at about 1pm and it filled me up until my dinner and that wasn't until about 9pm last night.
