Advantages: A tasty low calorie snack

Disadvantages: Too small

Whilst always trying to watch what I eat and eat as sensibly as possible, I do like to treat myself to a tasty sweet snack or two throughout the course of the day.

Browsing through the cakes on offer in Tesco I spied their Health Choices Carrot and Orange cake slices. The picture on the box looked good, with only 95 calories per slice and a great love of carrot cake I decided to give them a try.

THE PACKAGING

In quite an eye-catching white box with a tasty looking photo of the cakes on the front. These 6 cakes come in a moulded plastic tray, each cake having its own little section to sit in and then enclosed in a clear plastic bag.

THE TASTE

Quite a moist sticky texture to these cake slices, with quite a strong sweet smell of orange coming through when first opened. The texture I find quite similar to most carrot cakes I have tried, very moist and full of flavour. The flavours I find to be most prominent are orange and cinnamon. The actual cake isn't too sweet but the yogurt based icing is very sweet, although seems to compliment the cake's flavours very well. All in all a very tasty little sweet treat but far too small, at only about 3" x 1.5" x 1.5", I found the cake slice was finished before I had had a real chance to savour the splendid taste!

MY THOUGHTS

These little cake slices, or should I say VERY little cake slices are tasty, there is no doubt about that, but one wonders if they really are lower in calories than any other cake on the self, being so small it's no wonder there is only 95 calories in each. I will definitely buy these cakes again as I do love the moist texture and the flavour they offer, but I still feel that any other cake on the shelf cut to the same size would have just as few calories.

I'll look out for this next time I'm shopping... which could be sooner rather than later as I'm really getting peckish now!
