Advantages: lighter in fat than regular versions
Disadvantages: That thick sauce
What could be more tempting to a dieter than a LIGHT version of a British classic pudding?
One that claims to have just 245 calories, 2.7g of fat but 25.3g of sugar?
Ok, so that last nutritional nugget is not so good, but under 3g of fat in a PUDDING??
So I bought them. They come in a handy pack of two, so you can share with someone special or save one for tomorrow.
Just 40-50 seconds in the microwave, and the pudding is cooked. They do say you should leave it a minute, I guess that's to stop you burning your mouth and suing them!
The puddings come in little plastic tubs, with a foil top (which you remove before putting in the microwave obviously) Once cooked, you 'invert' the plastic tub onto a plate to get at the pud.
As it falls onto the plate, the sponge is covered with the strawberry sauce (it sat beneath it in the pot before you turned it upside down) And that's it, you eat it.
The sponge is alright. Not too heavy, but a little stodgy. But the sauce is far too thick for me. It's full of strawberry flavour and bits (I guess to show that it's made with strawberries...) but it resembles goo in texture. Like a syrup that had been reduced too far, or maybe it just doesn't cook enough in the time to bring it to a decent consistency. It's like a thick jam rather than a sauce.
Summary: could be better! It's a nice enough pud considering it's a light version, but you'll need to add a dollop of cream to make that 'sauce' edible, so that kinda kills the light part
Summary: add cream, or ice cream
