Advantages: Thick and creamy, lovely flavour, reasonably priced
Disadvantages: The hazelnut pieces were tiny
I read a review earlier about a Tesco Finest Hazelnut Yogurt and it got my tastebuds going. On my diet I allow myself one yogurt a day in addition to my milk allowance to ensure I get enough calcium, the trouble is varying the yogurts as I find them a very boring food and quickly get fed up of individual flavours.
To cut a long story short, they had none of the Finest yogurt which is why I ended up with a Tesco Low Fat Hazelnut yogurt and couldn't wait to get home and try it.
The 150g tub cost 28p, which isn't bad at all considering the Finest version would have been 64p and a tub of Muller is around 55p for 200g.
I haven't tried Hazelnut yogurt before so haven't anything to compare it to and didn't really know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised though and have found a new favourite because there is something so different and inspired about this flavour. I feel a dunce actually as I often add chopped nuts to Vanilla Muller Light but hadn't connected this with the bits of hazelnut I noticed upon opening the foil lid.
The yogurt was thick and creamy, not dissimilar to Muller yogurt, and had a definite nutty flavour. There is a slight toffee taste to the yogurt too which gives it a sweeter flavour than if it were just hazelnut. The tiny pieces of hazelnut were moist and didn't get stuck in my teeth like I thought they would. They added texture to the yogurt more than anything because they were too small to be able to taste them, but they were a very nice addition to what would otherwise have been quite a dull textured yogurt.
I found this a filling yogurt. I ate mine as a tea time snack because I knew I was going to be having a late dinner and it took the edge away from my hunger so that I wasn't eating junk before my meal.
Each pot contains 160 calories and 4.1g of fat, which isn't amazingly good for a yogurt but as far as I'm concerned they will inject a little variety into my diet which can only be a good thing.
Summary: A lovely yogurt which is a real break from the norm.
