We're always being told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and I like to stick to this, so I do try and have a healthy breakfast when possible. I do like cereals, and have tried quite a variety over the years. Where as a child I prefered chocolate cereals - Nesquick, Weetos, Coco Pops - I now prefer a much more basic variety, such as Bran Flakes or Weetabix. I have always loved Malt Wheats though, and jumped at the chance of trying Tescos own brand.
The cereal comes in a cardboard box, and on the front there is a picture of the malt wheats. They look incredibly delicious in photo form, and I couldn't wait to try them! As you open up the plastic bag inside, you are greeted with a very faint malty scent that always reminds me of Horlicks. Even when you pour the wheats out into a bowl the scent is still lingering - so tempting and delicious!
Adding the milk, the malt wheats begin to soften from their hard little knitted shapes. They don't become soggy until you're nearly finished, which is wonderful since nobody wants to eat soggy cereal! Giving them a taste, I discovered that these slightly soft little squares had a delicious flavour. They were so powerful with their taste, and again resembled Horlicks slightly. They are exactly like Shreddies, in fact slightly nicer if I am honest. They are not too big either so you get quite a lot in a bowl. They are incredibly tasty and filling too, perfect for waking you up in the morning to give you energey throughout the day.
Each portion contains around 200 calories and 3g fat, as well as 12g sugars, before you add the milk. That is not too bad at all, considering it will keep you going at least until mid-morning (might I then recommend a Special K cereal bar or equivalent?). I could eat these for every meal of the day, they're that delicious and so healthy that no guilt is laid upon you.
For a box of 750g, which will last quite a while with just one bowl a day, it will cost you just £1.10. Now I must admit that price is amazing. You can pay around £2 for a box of Shreddies of a smaller size, so this is definitely worth getting if it means saving quite a bit of money! These are simply delicious and if you live near a Tesco store, I strongly recommend you give them a try!
