Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: TOO CHEAP
Tesco Potato Croquettes have recently had their price cut from 81p for a 750g bag to just 75p. What a bargain for a big bag of frozen potatoes you say? No, there's a reason they had to cut the price - these are awful.
These croquette potatoes are supposed to be soft, fluffy mashed potato coated in breadcrumbs. That's what croquette potatoes traditionally are, and what these claim to be also. Shame they don't actually taste like that then isn't it?
Firstly, I'm not entirely sure what the breadcrumbs really are. The packet says they're breadcrumbs, the flavour says sawdust. They're like these little orange coloured bits of cardboard shavings or something that have been dusted all over the potatoes as an afterthought. They taste really strange, like peppered cardboard shavings to be precise.
Inside, the potato is quite soft, but it's also not very fluffy. It's a bit stodgy, with an almost chewy texture to it. I'm pretty sure that's not what any potato I know is supposed to taste like. The texture goes horribly with the breadcrumbs. With croquette potatoes, the idea is that you get a crisp crunch from the breadcrumbs then a lovely fluffy, light middle from the potato. But with the Tesco version, it's all just weak mush that quickly rolls into one, awful texture.
These might be cheap, but trust me they're not even worth 75p a bag. They taste horrible, they look unappealing and the texture is really slimey and horrible. I wouldn't eat these again let alone buy them.
