Advantages: ----------

Disadvantages: Look, taste and feel appalling!

I bought a packet of Tesco frozen roast potatoes last week for around 69p and I must say they were absolutely appalling and not a patch on home made roasters or even Aunt Bessies roast potatoes!

The amount of fat that came out of these during cooking astounded me, particularly considering the fact that they didn't feel overly greasy or oily while still frozen.

When cooked I wasn't impressed with the appearance of them as they had browned very unevenly and while parts of the potatoes were golden, other patches were as pale as when I put them in the oven and that was in spite of two turns during the cooking time.

The flavour of these roast potatoes is extremely bland and to me they didn't taste of potato in the slightest. If I had to compare them to something I would say the inside of the potato is very similar to cheaper frozen potato products that are designed for children - only nowhere near as nice!

The outside of the roast potatoes wasn't nice at all. It has crisped up slightly but went awfully soggy within minutes of being taken out of the oven and once I had poured my gravy over them they lost any semblance of crispiness and just became soft and very gooey in consistency.

I do not recommend these at all. They taste greasy and bland, are not seasoned well enough and looked awful on my dinner. Even at 69p a bag I think these are overpriced and although I haven't thrown the remainder away just yet, I cannot envisage that I will use them again.

I actually had a feeling when I bought them that they wouldn't be as nice as other frozen roast potatoes and while sitting eating my dinner I kicked myself that I couldn't be bothered to peel and cook my own potatoes on that particular day. I mentioned it to my daughter the following day and she told me that she had also bought these quite recently and had thrown away half a packet because everyone in her house thought they were awful too - apparently even my gannet 10 year old granddaughter left hers on the side of the plate, and this is the girl who will eat anything!

Not recommended in the slightest.

Summary: These frozen roast potatoes don't have a single redeeming feature, avoid!

Great review, loads of info. Thanks for the warning too, as I have eyed these up before!

Thanks for the warning! A shame as many of Tesco products are actually quite palatable.

What a pity! Tesco can do better than this I'm sure!
