Advantages: Tasty, sour yet sweet, cheap in price

Disadvantages: Very high in sugar

Today in Tesco I bought my granddaughters' some sweets from their long running '3 packets for £1' promotion and when one of the girls' failed to turn up for hers I ended up eating them - not to be mean of course, these Fizzy Bands just called to me from the cupboard and all thoughts of loyalty seemed to go out of my head!

I'm not usually a big sweet eater but found these extremely moreish, so much so that I actually ended up eating the whole packet and feeling rather naughty about it!

The sweets are long belts of multicoloured jelly which are wide but very thin, this gives them a lovely bendable texture and you can either tear bits off or wrap the whole belt up on itself and pop it all in your mouth. The sweets are very chewy indeed, I have some missing teeth and sometimes feel as though my jaw is going to snap with the effort of chewing them - although this over-chewiness only really happens when stuffing a whole belt into my mouth so I tend to munch it bit by bit instead!

The flavour I think is predominantly apple, although there is an underlying blend of general fruitiness there too. The belts are quite thickly coated in a fruity and sour sugar which does in fact give them a very fizzy taste. They're sour enough that the sweets made me wince when I first started to eat them today but I soon got used to it and eventually craved the tartness of the sugar on the sweets, which is actually what led me to eat the entire packet when I had only intended to have one or two!

Five belts will 'cost' you 95 calories and 0.5g fat, which isn't too bad although you'll be shocked (or perhaps not, thinking of how sticky and sugary the sweets are) to hear that these same five belts contain a huge 16.8g of sugar.

Summary: A delicious bag of sweets from Tesco, just try to ignore the sugar content!
