Advantages: Taste great, cheap, not too high in calories
Disadvantages: There are calories! LOL!
As you may know I am currently recovering from Swine Flu. Dave brought it back from Scotland and shared it with me - how kind! It's a good job I love him!
Anyway we did a bit of shopping at the weekend and I decided to get one of two treats for when he goes back and I am here on my own. I wanted something nice but not too high on sugar and calories as I do find it far too easy to think - oh, I'm not very well I will eat what I like to cheer myself up - not as good idea where I am concerned!
One of the things I decided to buy was a packet of Tesco Malted Milk biscuits. I used to eat these a lot when I was younger but haven't had any for ages.
The Cost
A 200g packet of Tesco Malted Milk biscuits cost me just 35p and for that I got about 22 biscuits. I must admit I consider that a bargain so that's a good start.
The Packaging
These biscuits come in quite a basic bright blue packet with a picture of the biscuits on the front together with the name of the product and the basic nutritional information expressed as a percentage of the recommended adult daily allowance.
On the back of the packet there is a full list of ingredients, detailed nutritional information, allergy advice and storage instructions.
The Biscuits
I opened the biscuits by tearing the red strip around the packet thus opening the same without damaging the biscuits inside. I could then put the biscuits into the airtight biscuit tin to keep them fresh.
They looked just the same as I remembered them!
They are oblong in shape and are about two and a half inches long and about one and a half inches wide. There is a border all around the edge and the words malted milk and a picture of cows on the front.
The Taste
The biscuits are nice and crunchy with a rich, almost buttery taste - again just like I remembered. The taste is difficult to describe but it is malty as you would expect. I have heard it said that these taste like Horlicks but there is no way that could be true - I can't stand Horlicks! LOL!
The Nutritional Information
It makes sense to give the nutritional information expressed per biscuit so that's what I will do.
Calories 44
Protein 0.6g
Carbohydrate 5.9g
Of which sugars 1.7g
Fat 1.9g
Of which saturates 0.9g
Fibre 0.2g
Salt trace
They are also suitable for vegetarians.
Conclusion
I am very impressed with these biscuits - they are just as good as I remember them! Best of all they aren't too high in fat and sugar - when compared to such as chocolate digestives for example - and a couple of them make a nice snack at bedtime so that I can get to sleep without feeling hungry and then not wake up during the night.
So I get a treat that isn't too unhealthy and only costs 35p and that can't be bad can it?
Summary: Just as good as I remembered!
