Think of it not as a burger, but as a giant fish cake (Tesco Salmon Burgers)

Advantages: Moist, holds shape well, makes a nice change

Disadvantages: Not as good as fresh fish!

Out of all the ready-prepared BBQ food that my fiancé's Mum bought, these Salmon Burgers were the biggest surprise. The thought of a burger made from salmon wasn't very appealing and as we took them out of the box and saw this pink disc, we were certain they would be dry and horrible.

At the time we had the BBQ I couldn't get my head around the concept of a burger made from salmon. But now when I think about it, it's really just like a fish cake, but in a Thai fish cake way and not one filled with potato.

With a cooking time of only 14 minutes from frozen, they cooked quickly and the burger was surprisingly succulent. I do like salmon, but I thought these would have a strange fishy taste. I can't say that they taste distinctly of salmon, but they do have a nice flavour which I can't quite put my finger on! My fiancé's Dad doesn't like salmon, but he did like these when he tried a piece.

I think these are a bargain at £2 for 2 burgers, as fish is generally quite expensive. I don't know what the percentage of fish is in these burgers as the information isn't available on the Tesco website and we've thrown away the packaging! But the texture of them is predominantly fish and not a lot of filler ingredients.

Although I did enjoy eating these, I wouldn't specifically request that they be bought on a regular basis, only because I prefer a nice piece of fresh fish. However, they did make a nice change to the usual burgers and sausages and they were an easy way to cook fish on the BBQ as they held their shape really well.

Summary: Surprisingly good.
