Advantages: Tasty Samosas, Cheaper Than Brand Names

Disadvantages: Not So Tasty Bahjis, Recent Price Rise

Tesco Samosa & Bahji Pack is a relatively decent purchase. It's a compromise between price and quality as far as I'm concerned. A twin pack contains two large onion bahjis, and two large vegetable samosas. It costs £1.19 for this pack of four Indian snacks, which is a price that's gone up a bit in recent months.

The onion bahjis in this pack aren't as moist as Tesco onion bahjis used to be. That said, they are a lot tastier than the miniature ones are. They've got a mild, slightly bland onion flavour to them, with a coating that's a bit greasier than the one on the miniature ones is for some reason. The greasiness isn't the best way to give them moisture, but it beats having to suffer the dry filling on its own. The best way to serve these is warmed in the oven (or the microwave if you want to cheat) as it brings the flavour out a bit.

The samosas are considerably tastier than the onion bahjis are. They're slightly greasy and almost junk food like, but not in a slimey or off-putting way. Inside the soft pastry, there's a really tasty filling heaped inside in generous amounts. It includes soft little potato cubes, a vegetable mixture of peas, carrots and cauliflower, and a spicy sauce that includes flavours of tomato, onion and cumin with a slight taste of chilli coming through too. I think these are decent quality with a really strong, well blended flavour to them.

I do buy these from time to time, as I like an onion bahji with my curry and I really like the samosas in these packs. I have to mark down the product as a whole for the recent price hike though, and of course the fact that the onion bahjis are a bit middle of the road.
