Make some scones today and pass them off as your own! (Tesco Scone Mix)

Advantages: Great mix, easy to make, minimal extra ingredients required.

Disadvantages: High in fat.

I love to cook but sometimes I am low on time or money so I want something that is cheap and fast to make.

This scone mix is provided in a cardboard box with the nutritional information, calorie information, cooking information & a picture of some delicious looking scones. Within the bag there is a plastic bag which contains the contain mix itself and to make this up you simply need to add 150ml of milk and put in a hot oven at 220 degrees for around 12-15 minutes until the scones have risen and turned golden brown. It's probably best to use a cutter with these rather than just guessing as you may end up with some very small, uneven scones.

I found the mixture fairly easy to make and it did take on a good consistency quite fast and I only used a wooden spoon to give it a good stir, it took just a few minutes and then I rolled the dough out to around 1 inch thick and used a 3" cutter to cut out the scones. I then placed them on a lined baked tray, brushed with some egg and cooked for about 14 minutes.

The scones were lovely and well browned and once I'd left them to cool I sampled one. They were lovely, well cooked and quite heavy, I just had butter on mine but I can imagine they'd be delicious with jam & cream. These really did taste just as good as any other scones I have purchased before and I would definitely make these again. I paid 42p for my mix and got around 7 or 8 scones for this price. Unfortunately, the price seems to have leapt up to 72p when I checked the Tesco website today.

Each scone made up to the recipe on the box contains around 180 calories and 4.5g of fat so these should be enjoyed in moderation but then I think that most people would know these with regards to scones, just remember that this figure goes up a lot if you add cream & jam!

I think that this mix is a fantastic idea for anybody who wants to bake but doesn't have a lot of time or money for expensive ingredients. I am rating this scone mix 4/5 and have really knocked off one star because of the huge leap in the price (and it wasn't on special offer when I purchased it).
