Advantages: You don't have to buy it
Disadvantages: It lacks pork, tastes of shoes and has more calories than 1200 trifles (Ok I may exaggerate there!)
Being patriotic, I love the fact that things like Cheddar Cheese are being given EU status, where things like Cheddar can only be authenticated if created in that region, the same applies to Pork Pies from Melton Mowbray, which are now protected and rightly so as a decent authentic Pork Pie, is worth the problems with cholesterol and fat, its a wonderful pie filled with pork, egg and some lovely spicing.
Well Tesco have their own version of the Melton Mowbray, its not really comparable to true versions of the pie and really lets down the Melton Mowbray name , this is a small almost plasticity version with bland pastry, meat which is not particularly recognisable as Pork and a taste similar to the one you have when you go to the dentist and have a filling.
It is packaged in blue and white and looks similar to the normal pork pies, it is also packaged similarly to the scotch eggs and sausage rolls and just fits in, I wish i'd mistaken it for something else now and bought a proper pork pie or sausage roll rather than this fat filled monstrosity.
Its only available in Tesco obviously and costs 74p for a 145g pie, one pie contains 535 calories, now i'm not somebody who watches their fat intake, but I would say be very cautious here, the pies has 35g of fat which is half your recommended daily intake, if it tasted amazing i'd advise you to risk one once in a while, but this is bland, tasteless and it actually makes me feel a bit ill so i'd advise not to eat one, especially as it contains only 26% pork, the rest is wheat flour, fat, gelatine, starch and pepper, its an abomination and embarrassment to the good name of Melton Mowbray and not recommended at all.
Basically this will make you fat and ill, it is tiny and when you think about it your better off eating a couple of chocolate bars or some fried chicken or spare ribs as they are at least filling and tasty, this is bland, the pastry is wrong on every level, its greasy, tastes almost sour and the gelatine is horrible too, the pork is pork and other things, which I hate to imagine whilst the seasoning is overdone and definite to hide the lack of pork, flavour and quality.
In case you hadn't guessed I don't think you should buy this product.
