Advantages: Tasty, Good Consistency, Affordable

Disadvantages: Only Choice in Tesco

Tesco Soured Cream is a decent little product, though it has to be noted that there isn't a lot to compare it to in store. In my local Tesco, and on the website, I can't find any other fresh soured cream besides their low fat version. I think it's a shame because the only other shop bought one I've had is Sainsburys, and now that I no longer shop there, I have only this one option to choose if I want soured cream!

Still, I can't complain too much because this is a perfectly acceptable product, for a perfectly acceptable price. 142ml costs 51p usually (presently it's on offer for 45p) and 284ml costs 89p. I think they're very reasonable prices given the cost of dairy products in general, cream in particular these days.

The most common purpose for soured cream is of course as a topping on jacket potatoes, and that's what I tend to use it for. I tend to find that the larger tub does well to serve the whole family if we're having spuds for dinner. I think it's important to consider how many servings you're going to use when you buy this, as the pot only stays fresh for a couple of days after opening it.

On jacket potatoes this stuff is really nice. It's got a lovely thick, rich texture to it that requires being scooped out of the pot rather than poured. I find it runs down to fill my potato nicely as it melts a little, but that it retains its refridgerator coolness towards the top. I like this about soured cream in general because it gives a nice contrast in temperatures when you're eating.

Taste wise this stuff tastes as thick and creamy as it looks. I've had a home made soured cream before in a pub that had a really bitter and sour edge to it, which I really didn't like at all. Perhaps that is how traditional soured cream should taste, but it's not to my liking. I like that this stuff has a creamy, savoury taste without any sour edge. It's almost sweet to an extent, but in a creamy way rather than a sugary one.

This is a great little soured cream that we happily buy on a regular basis.

Summary: Highly Recommended

Never thought of having soured cream on spuds. I'll have to give it a try x

I always get this to put in my curries when I make them.
