Advantages: You can treat yourself to something delicious without breaking the diet
Disadvantages: You might eat two!
I used to always buy ordinary strawberry trifles for my husband but, once I started on my diet, I decided that I couldn't eat these. However, just sitting watching my husband eating his strawberry trifles used to make me drool. Oh, I used to think, why can't I have a trifle that I can eat on my diet. Having a sweet tooth I really needed to find some kind of instant dessert that I could use to give myself a treat without being harmful to my weight loss. Well then, whilst doing my weekly shopping at Tescos and looking at the Mullerlight yogurts and thinking "oh, they get so boring sometimes" I decided to have a good look on the dessert shelves. As I looked along the shelves I felt a bit despair because all the goodies on show looked absolutely fantastic but, my goodness, were so full of KCals and fats that I just couldn't possibly contemplate buying any of them. Then, lo and behold, (goodness, that sounds like something out of the bible, doesn't it but, I guess, it kinda seemed like a little miracle to me!) what do I see (my eyes nearly popping out of their sockets) but a low fat strawberry trifle! Were my eyes deceiving me? No, they come in a pack of 3 (and are actually called Tesco Healthy Living Strawberry Trifle) and the packaging definitely says that each tub has less than 3% fat with 161KCal per tub and 2.1g of saturated fat. The package does warn that the product may contain nuts but I have never tasted any so I guess the nuts could be a "hidden" flavour. This product is also suitable for vegetarians. This was a dream come true. So, I bought them and decided I would check on my computer on the Slimming World Syns website just how many Syns they were when I got back home. As soon as I got home, I quickly turned on my computer and checked the Syn value to be 8 Syns which is not too bad if you want to give yourself a treat. WHAT DO THEY LOOK LIKE? ======================= Eac
h tub is approximately 3.5" tall and clear so that you can visibly see all the beautiful ingredients inside it! At the bottom of the tub there are layers of sponge with strawberries in a mixed fruit flavoured jelly. On top of this is a layer of thick, vanilla flavour custard and then the creamy topping. My mouth is just watering describing this lovely tasty trifle. WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE? ======================= Out of this world when you are on a diet! I dip my spoon deep down into the tub so that I can get a little bit of each layer onto the spoon as I then take my spoon out. The jelly with the strawberries is absolutely divine. The custard is really thick and creamy and doesn't taste like a low fat custard at all and the creamy topping is very much like fresh cream but lighter but without the KCals! So, that evening, both my husband and I were sitting on the sofa watching our TV programmes and both of us were in seventh heaven eating our strawberry trifles. I would never have to miss out on a treat ever more - I now had my own bit of heaven. HOW MUCH DO THESE COST? ========================= I have just paid £1.57 for a triple pack. The product is produced in the UK for Tesco Stores Limited, Cheshunt EN8 9SL. Their website is: www.tesco.com Hope you enjoy this trifle as much as I do.

- 04/06/04 Well they sound quite nice but I'm always a bit suspicious of low-fat things that aren't naturally low-fat! And I can't actually imagine buying a ready-made trifle either. Anyway, good to know you found something you like which isn't too fattening! Sue |
