... only 2 colours on the tin, but it stands out on the shelf, as you can recognise the White label amoungst all the red tins. No ring pull on this, so time to dig out the Can opener. Considering this sits in a cupboard and only comes out to empty the tin into a device for cooking it with, I don't care much how it looks. The only 2 ways I can find to cook Soup is in the Microwave and this cooks well in approx 2 minutes. The other way is to put in a pan and cook on the hob. I normally cook on the hob, as I always f...more

Premium Review Tesco Tomato Soup: Nice cheap basic soup (280 words)

I like some soup, it's easy to make and tasty, and there's not much wrong you can go with tomato soup, so I decided to try Tesco's own brand tomato soup. I've never had a Tesco own brand soup before, so I was aware that it could have been rubbish. The packaging of it isn't particularly nice, it was red with "Tomato Soup" written on it. Although, if you shift your eyes down a bit, you realize that it's only around 20p. It is a standard size tin, not smaller sized one. Looking through the ingredients, there wasn't anything that was particularly alarming. If I remember right, there was less than 15 ingredients. The usual ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tastes of tomato... well what did you expect? (508 words)

In the winter and whenever I'm feeling ill, I like to have some nice hot soup with a thick chunk of bread. It really does make me feel better. My favourite is normally chicken soup. Although I think very highly of Tesco value products I'd never bought a tin of soup from them before, I think it was the packaging that put me off even though it doesn't with other value products. I normally prefer to buy a tin of Heinz because of the really tasty looking picture on the front. However due to the increasing price of Heinz lately I decided to try buying a Tesco value tin. Tesco Cream of Tomato Soup comes in a 400g tin for just 18p. There is no ring pull on this can ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tesco Tomato Soup: Tomato soup on the cheap (638 words)

Background: As part of my new list of cut backs I have been experimenting with cheaper non branded products. I have always loved Tomato Soup, so when I noticed Tesco do a Value tin I thought it was well worth a try. Price: The price for a 400-gram tin is currently just 17p. This compares very favourably to the usual branded tin, which cost 85p. Packaging: The tin's design is simple but effective. Admittedly not as stylish and eye catching as the branded ones but still perfectly presentable without looking cheap. On the rear of the tin, there is advice on how to serve the soup. It also tells you that the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tesco Value Soup - It's exactly what it says on the tin! (328 words)

As I am currently out of a job I am always looking for cheaper items when doing my little bit of shopping each week. I am buying certain items from certain stores and Tesco has quite a few of these items in their Value ranges (as you may well see from some of my recent reviews!). Anyway, on to the product.... This is a can of 400g of Tesco Value Tomato Soup which is currently selling for around the 20p mark (I believe it was 17p but don't quote me on that!). The can is very basic, it does not have a ring pull so you will need a can opener, it has a very basic label telling anyone who dares to peek in to your basket that you ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tesco Tomato Soup: Not Heinz? Not Interested!! (246 words)

No no no no no! If it isn't Heinz, it's just plain WRONG! TASTE Surprisingly good. It isn't the best tomato soup I've had, not even close! But it does taste strongly of tomatoes and it is pretty creamy. It is thick and rich and actually as I type this I'm thinking it isn't as bad as I think. I might give it another go just to test! PACKAGING Vile horrid tesco value packaging that will put you off. But if you can bring yourself to pick up a tin, what is inside is pretty nice. The packaging does not do it justice! INGREDIENTS This soup contains the following ingredients: water, tomato puree, sugar, vegetable oil, maize ...  Read the complete review
