Tesco value tomato soup

I nearly always have a can of tesco value cream of tomato soup in my store cupboard. I find it a useful addition for those days when I cannot be bothered to cook lunch and want something easy, or for a cold winters night when I want something warm and comforting inside.

My grandson has milk intolerance so I now have to check ingredients of everything I give him and looking at the ingredients of the tesco value cream of tomato soup I see it contains milk so unsuitable for anybody with milk allergies.
This soup also contains water, tomato puree sugar, vegetable oil, maize starch, double cream, salt, dried skimmed milk, citric acid, mustard, flavourings.
This soup has 76kcal per 100g/3.1/2 oz 3.5g fat per 100g
The tin contains 400g, which I find sufficient for 2 helpings.

Come into the kitchen with me to cook this soup for lunch.
First I have to open the tin with the tin opener. Now shall I cook it on the hob? Where I put it into a saucepan and heat slowly for about 4 minutes. I shall have to stir it to prevent it sticking to the pan.

Or shall I cook it in the microwave? I can heat it in the bowl that I can then eat it out of. I just have to remember to cover the bowl with a plate or my microwave will look lie a road traffic accident. In the microwave it will take3 to 4 minutes to heat and I will try and remember to stir the soup after a couple of minutes so it cooks evenly.

If I am only cooking half the can of soup I shall reduce the cooking time. If I am only using half the can of soup I shall put the remaining half in a mug or bowl and place it in the fridge to eat within 2 days. If I decide not to eat the rest of the soup another day its no great loss as the soup only costs 18p a can.

While the soup is cooking I can make some toast to eat with it or just butter some bread, which would you like with your soup? Toast or bread.
Now to eat come on sit
down with me at my pine kitchen table and eat, here’s a spoon.

Yes, as you would expect it does smell tomatoey . Smell is important gets the taster buds alerted. Smell of food is very important to blind people my little blind girl at school always smells her dinner first so she can tell what she is going to eat.
First spoonful yes it’s a smooth textured soup a little creamy. It is quite a thick soup not too runny.

How does it taste well it’s a good tomato flavour sweetish but not oversweet flavoursome. I like this soup in fact its flavour is as good if not better than many of the other basic tomato soups. So it’s a good fairly nutritional quick warming lunch.

This soup is good to heat up on a basic camping gas when camping, (I know I have done it).

I think it would be fine added and cooked in with a beef casserole type meal to make it goulashy.

If your offspring or you are starting uni and has to cater for his/herself this would be a good cheap stand by for a store cupboard.
Thanks for reading Mary

I love my heinz, but if this is as good as you say, then I might well give it a whirl! 45p and 18p is a big difference.
