Advantages: good base for a trifle

Disadvantages: none

I will probably be buying these trifle sponges for making a trifle this Christmas season. They are Tesco's trifle sponges in a packet of eight.

This pack cost 54p that's 7p each .These are not the fingers I wrote about a few days ago but small rectangular sponges. The top of these sponges have a sugar coating. Now when I am making a trifle I often finding myself snaffling one of these sponges and eating it. Brings back childhood memories my mum often used to give me one of these when she was making a trifle.
The sponges as I said are covered in a crisp sugar topping. The sponges themselves a plain bland sweet taste, These sponge cakes are dry really but the ese rectangular cakes moister than the fingers I think.

Most supermatrkets make thier own brand of trifle sponges all around this price Ocado are 1p more. The trifle sponges I remember from childhood were Lyons , not so many own brand ones seemed to be available then in the 50's and 60's

These tesco trifles make a pretty fine trifle. There are many trifle recipies on line since ciao do not want me to give you my recipie so look at http://www.nigella.com/recipes/recipe. asp?article=157 or http://christmasrecipes.wordpress.com/2006/12/16/ english-christmas-trifle-recipe. You could find one in a cookery recipie book too

They do contain gluten, Wheat Flour, Eggs, Dried Egg White, Milk & Milk Powder I think they contain 70 calories each do check this on line athttp://www.tesco.com/superstore/product/search.a spx?search=trifle+sponges so not really suitable for those with allergies / food intolerences
These triffle sponges are as good as other makes of triffle sponges .they are easy to use .They are so plain and boring on thier own Will be ideal for any flavour triffle . Bananas work well in a triffle

I was trying to think of an another use for trifle sponges and I could not think of any they are not as attractive as the trifle sponge fingers for other desert or cake decorating . They need some other flavours as they are so bland . Any ideas anyone ?

Summary: trifle sponges
