Advantages: Delicious fluffy bread, easy to bake, only 39p for two baguettes

Disadvantages: ---------------

I wasn't expecting much when I picked up this twin pack of Tesco Value Part Baked Baguettes but when I saw they were only 39p I decided to make them my latest Tesco Value experiment.

I can honestly say these are one of the gems of the range. You simply brush these baguettes with a little cold water and bake in a pre-heated oven for 10 minutes. By then they will have cooked through and turned a golden brown, but if you like your crust darker just cook them for a further two minutes.

Slicing through the crispy crust you'll come to fluffy white bread that is beautifully soft and stodgy as all warm bread should be. Spread this with a good quality salted butter and you're really in for a treat.

It tastes like even the most expensive part baked baguettes I've tried. It is reminiscent of fresh bread, and certainly has the smell of it, but it's not exactly fresh bread. However, these baguettes are delicious in their own right and are absolutely delicious.

Just last night I ate one filled with a sliced chicken breast, stuffing and a thick meaty gravy and it was absolutely wonderful, better than any hot baguette you can buy in a café. The baguette held it's shape well and the ends didn't start going hard in the time it took me to assemble the filling, part baked baguettes are notorious for going hard in record time after coming out of the oven but these Value ones are excellent in that respect.

I have also cut one into slices after cooking and lightly toasted the slices to float on top of French Onion soup and they were beautiful. The fluffy bread soaked up some of the soup and this made for a more filling and interesting meal than soup alone.

Each baguette contains 330 calories and 1.8g of fat so try to stop at one, or be just like me and eat one then put the other one straight into the oven because you enjoyed the first so much!

Summary: These baguettes are a bargain price and taste delicious.
