Advantages: Taste great, freeze well, only 39p

Disadvantages: None

I have been buying these Tesco Value Part Baked Baguettes for a few months now, after I spotted them in Tesco's whilst shopping. They cost 50p for two baguettes then, but have now been reduced to 39p, which is even better value, as they keep for a while and can also be frozen, which is what I have done with them. The packaging information recommends freezing them on the day of purchase, and defrosting for a minimum of two hours in the refrigerator.

My husband and I enjoy making homemade soups, and often use these baguettes to make garlic and herb bread to accompany the soup. This makes enough for two large portions or four smaller ones. It's also lovely with a homemade lasagne and mixed salad.

The baguettes need to be lightly dampened with a little water, then placed on a baking tray and baked in a pre-heated oven at 220c/425f/Gas mark 7 for 10-12 minutes. They always turn out well, and are crispy on the outside and soft inside. The taste is very good too, and they are as good as more expensive ones. When making the garlic and herb bread, I wrap the baguette in some foil or greaseproof paper before putting it in the oven, then unwrap it for the last few minutes, to alow it to crisp up on the outside.

Each baguette contains 330 calories, 67.1g of carbohydrates (of which 4.2g sugars). They are very low in fat though, at only 1.8g, and there is 3.4g of fibre in each one.

I will be stocking up my freezer with some more of these baguettes, as they taste really good and are fantastic value. They are also great to have in case you run out of bread or want some freshly baked bread, but don't wish to bake it yourself.

Summary: Tasty Tesco Value Baguettes
