Advantages: They taste very nice and have a nice firm texture, they are only 24p a tin, the sauce tastes rich

Disadvantages: The sauce is thin but that is to be expected with such cheap beans

Because I have recently changed my routine I am at my daughters on her usual shopping day now so I go to Tesco with her to do a little bit of my own shopping and also to help her out with my very active baby grandaughter. I am more of a Sainsbury's shopper and am very loyal to them but I think Tesco have more special offers and I have been trying out their Value range because I think Sainsbury's equivalent no frills range (Basics) is awful.

This week I bought some Value baked beans which cost me only 24p where my usual Heinz beans would cost about 49p for the same 420g tin.

I heated them gently in a saucepan because I think tinned food tastes horrible when done in the microwave. I had noticed that the sauce looks very thin but I had assumed this would be the case when I picked them up in the supermarket and as I always drain most of the sauce off my beans anyway I wasn't worried about that. If you like the very thick sauce that comes in Branston Beans then you will be disappointed here probably but Heinz sauce is fairly thin anyway I think so this should not be too much of a problem for you.

These Value beans smelled very nice and I was looking forward to trying them on top of my thick buttered toast. The beans are nice and firm just like Heinz beans but do not feel like I am chewing bullets like the Sainsbury's Basics beans. The sauce is thin but is very tasty and tastes quite rich considering how watery it looks. It is a nice quality tomato sauce and it coats the beans well and does not run off them in between the plate and my mouth. The baked beans taste lovely and although they are not quite as flavoursome as the Heinz and HP brands they still taste very good indeed. I think they taste a little bit sweeter than other beans but there is no horrible aftertaste like I was expecting.

I will buy these again because for the cheap price I don't think you will find better no frills baked beans.

Summary: For 24p you should try a tin because you cannot go wrong for that price!

I dont care for these at all they are like bullets, if you cook them on a stove for an hour or so they may soften LOL.
