Advantages: Good for budgets

Disadvantages: Lacking nutritionally

While studying for my degree, I found myself in a similar predicament to most other students: I had no money. So, everything became a budget item, including food, supplies, transport, and alcohol. In terms of sustenance for a cheap price, Tesco have a good market advertised. Their blue and white striped range of 'value' products was a life saver for me during my Uni days, and one my favourites was Tesco Value Baked Beans. I spent many a time in Tesco picking up multiple cans of their value beans and thinking how I was getting a bargain in comparison to other leading brands of baked beans such as Heinz.

Currently, Tesco Value Baked Beans cost a mere 20p per 420g can. I will concede some points here. Nutritionally, Value beans don't cut it in comparison with other brands, but at the end of the day, we are talking about a tin of baked beans either way, whichever one you buy, and while this may be important for someone who needs the importance of high dietary quality in foods (a baby or toddler for example), for a student or indeed anyone on a budget of some sort this is an ideal way of eating something that will fill you up for a bit.

Another point I will concede is that the beans have less of a palate pleasing taste than other more expensive brands. My personal favourite is Branston's Baked Beans - they're good! But again, for me personally, Value beans were good enough either hot and on toast (tesco value bread!!) or even straight out of the tin. A lot of people cringe about that, but they still do the job. The sauce isn't too watery, the taste is strong enough, and the price is right - what's not to like?!

Summary: Students' basics - yum yum!
