Advantages: Cheap, OK taste
Disadvantages: Sauce a bit watery, beans a little hard
More reviews on my quest for good and bad value products across our supermarkets.
The latest product to be tried in our house was the value baked bean - I must confess I don't actually like baked beans so this is review is based on the comments from my children and my husband.
I expected when I opened the tin to be hit with lots of colouring of bright orange but I was surprised at the lack of colour in these beans. The sauce was a little watery when I opened the tin but I know that sometime the sauce can settle a little in the tin. However even when I poured the beans into the pan the sauce was pretty much the same consistency all the way through. The sauce wasn't really sticking to the beans as it does in some tins I have bought.
Due to the slightly runny consistency they weren't they greatest to be spooned over the baked potatoes which had been the plan.
But did they taste ok - well the verdict from the table was that the beans were fine - possibly firmer than some other makes but this was a plus point in our house as they don't like beans that tasted mushy. The taste was comparable with many other versions so overall an OK product which I will be buying again - though prpbably not to top baked potatoes.
Summary: An OK tin of beans but nothing special
