Our food shopping bill has almost doubled in the last year or so and we are always looking for offers and supermarket version that are as good as the branded product which save a bit of money. This is often the case as rather than using expensive or excessive packaging etc the supermarkets use bog standard basic packaging that meets necessary requirements but is no thrills and usually only two or three colours (keeps cost down too).

Tesco value baked beans in tomato sauce stand out quite easily on the shelf as their packaging is mainly white with red and blue writing on it. A 420g can (which is 2 servings) is only about 30p which is over half the price of the equivalent by Heinz.

You can cook them in exactly the same way - either on the hob or in a microwave so they are still a quick and easy option and have all the health benefits of Heinz baked beans - high in fibre, low in fat and calories and they are a good source of protein.

That said they just don't taste as good as the branded product. In fact i wouldn't have them again - it's not that they taste bad - it's just they're not Heinz! Perhaps that makes me a bit stuck up but the taste is not as flavoursome and the sauce is almost watery. I wasn't that impressed but i can see for those of you that aren't as fussy as me and students and otherson a tight budget these make a great purchase.

Not for me though but i would recommend trying them and making up your own mind.

Summary: I will stcik with Heinz despite the price difference
