Advantages: Very cheap, and quite nice

Disadvantages: Not as nice as standard Tesco beans, and too much sauce

I've been trying to cut down on my food spending recently, by "down-ranking" as much as possible. The idea is to buy items 1 level cheaper than you normally would. Any items where you can't tell the difference, you stick with the cheaper one or even downgrade another rank in your next shop, until you've hit your level where you're spending a lot less, but not really noticing a decline in the tastiness of your food.

I did this and found super-market own brand to be just as good as the leading brands.

I then down-ranked again to these Tesco Value beans, and I have to say I found them noticeably less tasty than the more expensive Tesco standard ones, with a lot more sauce-to-bean ratio, and the sauce was less rich. The beans themselves were mostly ok, and overall these value beans are still quite nice - but not as nice the own brand. If saving money is a main priority for you, these beans are perfect. If you want to get top-brand taste at a lower price, I'd stick with the standard supermarket own brands

Summary: You'll save a lot, but you'll taste the difference
