Advantages: Very Cheap

Disadvantages: Thin sauce which is sometimes found in excessive amounts

Tesco Value Baked Beans in Tomato sauce are the supermarkets budget alternative to premium brands.

They are a bargain at 29p for 420grams.

The distinctive white and blue packaging makes the product easily identified on the supermarket shelf.

I have bought several tins of the value beans and have had various luck with the bean to sauce ratio as some tins are overfilled with the thin, slightly sweet tomato sauce. But this can be easily fixed by serving with a straining spoon. The beans I find a little harder than the typical Heinz variety but very edible at less than half the price.

There are various ways to enjoy beans including on toast or a jacket potato but I also use beans in a number of recipes - mixed in to a Chilli Con Carnie for additional taste and bean casserole which I make with chopped cooked potatoes and corned beef with a tin of Baked Beans (the additional sauce in the value beans is perfect for this recipie) and top with grated cheese and put in oven for 30mins on 180 c. Quick and easy and loved by children.

Summary: Cheap alternative to premium brand
