Tesco value baked beans and sausages

I wrote this review a couple of years ago for the other site , it has just been added here so I am posting it for you to read.

I wrote this review while we were having our kitchen extended the work seemed to take over everythingand we were reduced to eating cheaply and easily .

These beans come packaged in a tin with the tesco value blue striped paper wrapper with the words in red. I quite like basic labelling it must save a fortune so many things are over packaged, only problem is you have to be able to read- understand the language to find out whats in the tin

Kcal 85 per 100 g
Sugar 4.90 per 100g
Fat 1.50 per 100g
Fibre 2.60 per 100 g
Use half tin put in non-metallic container cover use within 2 days
Free from egg free from milk
Less than 10% meat

I am reduced to cooking by microwave only due to building works on the house. So what am I cooking?
Well I am also feeling hard up our savings are rapidly disappearing into bricks and mortar so I decided we would eat v cheap and bought a tin of value beans and sausages they cost 36p 567g this was a good sized helping for two. It was cold here yesterday at lunch time so I opened a can emptied it in to a bowl and put it in the microwave and presented it on toast. I think in total it must have cost 50p is 25p per person.

How did it taste? The beans were fine not well not especially tasty but acceptable. They were in a tomato sauce which was fine not really too sweet but not tangy either well the sausages a bit non-event did not have a full flavour. I think a fussy child would eat these no problems. All in all they were ok a basic baked bean with a basic sausage in a tomatoes flavoured sauce. not wonderful but I did not find it offensive either.

The baked beans were a reasonable texture fairly firm, did not fall to pieces. The sausages were small a soft texture, The sauce not especially thick but not a thin sauce It was not too runny, a reasonable amount for the quantity of beans and sausage.

Would I recommend this sausage? Yes they are fine if you want a quick easy basic snack, not too demanding. Probably good and easy to heat up on the camping gaz if I have no other means of cooking, reasonably healthy. Not something for everyday but ok for occasional days when I want something quick and cheap.
. Thanks for reading best wishes Mary
