Advantages: Huge box, taste as good as other varieties but much cheaper

Disadvantages: We all know the Tesco value packaging isn't the most aesthetically pleasing!

These are my top bargain buy at the moment!

Now, for those of you who have never tried bran flakes, they aren't the tastiest of cereals. In fact, when I took these into work to eat I was greeted by looks ranging from curiosity to repulsion! However, I can't eat anything sweet first thing in the morning (yuk) and so bran flakes are actually my favourite tasting cereal, as well as being good for you.

Having decided to take the plunge and try the Tesco's value instead of their own brand, I am pleased to report that there is no difference whatsoever in the taste of the two cereals. I had imagined that these would be drier and more 'cardboardy' (not a real word I know but that's the only word I can think of to describe something that tastes like cardboard!) but, if you put this cereal and a more expensive brand in front of me, I doubt I could tell you the difference.

These are great value at 70p for 750g, and the box I bought over two weeks ago probably has a good 6-8 servings left in it (I have them for breakfast every day without fail).

One thing I would say is that they aren't quite as healthy as you might think, I was surprised to see that a serving contains 13% of your RDA of sugar and 10% of your RDA of salt (eeek!) but they also contain iron, vitamins D, B6 and B12 and are 75% wholewheat so are probably still 'healthier' than many other cereal options. In fact, a quick comparison of these with Tesco's 'Healthy Living' version reveals identical percentages and ingredients lists, the only difference seems to be the price!

I was delighted with this product, and if you can't see the logic in paying more for the same quality, then I guarantee you will be too.

Summary: A tasty value way to start the day!

Unfortunately I have to cover bran flakes in sugar to disguise the taste which kind of undoes the health benefits! lol
